SPOKANE -- Friends and family joined together at Spokane International Airport to welcome home Spokane Climber Dawes Eddy as he returned from conquering Mt. Everest.
Dawes said he was really glad to be home and while he was excited to accomplish his goal of taking on Everest he was just as excited to get back home to Spokane.
A group of friends and fellow climbers greeted Dawes at the airport Wednesday afternoon.
He spent several weeks on Everest first, adjusting to the altitude, then the actual climb. At the time, he was the oldest American to summit Everest but just two days later a 67-year old man from California beat his record.
Dawes joked that while some people get only 15 minutes of fame he got two full days as the record holder. He says now that he's conquered Everest he doesn't have plans for a return.
"I satisfied myself as to what I was capable of and I'm really happy to have done it and just as happy to be back," Dawes said.
When asked if he's done climbing, now that he's reached the world's highest peak Dawes said he wasn't finished. He said he's always wanted to climb Mt. Denali.
