KELLOGG, Idaho -- In light of the weekend's gorgeous weather, one ski resort in Idaho reopened their slopes.
Skiers and boarders at Silver Mountain enjoyed blue skies, temperatures in the mid 60's, and free skiing.
About 1,500 people took to the slopes on Silver Sunday, enjoy their favorite winter activity in summer like conditions.
"We got a big party down there," said Ken Smith of Dave Smith Motors.
Some of the more brave patrons donned swimsuits and flip-flops on top of the mountain.
"No gloves, no coat, no neck warmer or hat," said snowboarder Craig Pirello from Coeur d'Alene.
Marthanne Worley was drawn to Silver on Sunday, but it wasn't necessarily the free skiing that convinced her to ski.
"I've never skied in shorts, so I wanted to," said Worley.
In shorts and a bikini top, Worley fit right in with most everyone else.
Those strapping on their skis and boards enjoyed a warm breeze and soft snow.
"The warm weather is making this stuff mashed potatoes, but it's great," said Pirello.
The conditions were close to ideal considering the weather.
"It's kind of like skiing in powder, but its wet," said Alex Smith.
The official temperature was in the mid 60's, but people on the mountain thought it was much warmer.
"It feels like 80 degrees up here," said Ken Smith. "It's like water skiing!"
It was Ken Smith's idea for Dave Smith Motors to host the day of free skiing, he said the idea hit him while he was watching the weather forecast.
"When I saw that 80 degree mark, we had to pull the trigger and see if we could open this mountain," said Ken.
Ken's brother, Alex say's it was rewarding watching everyone have a good time.
"So many people are up here are telling us 'thank you'," said Alex. "People told us they couldn't ski this year because they couldn't afford it."
If you missed the event this weekend, Silver Mountain announced they'll be open next Saturday and Sunday as well.
