COEUR D'ALENE -- The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department says a 14-year-old Coeur d'Alene girl who was injured during a jet ski crash on Friday has died.
The girl and three other teens were hurt when the two personal water craft they were riding collided on Lake Coeur d'Alene around 2:50 p.m. on Friday.
Deputies say the girl was driving one of the jet skis with a male passenger on the back when it hit the other water craft near the entrance of the 3rd Street Boat Launch. The girl was ejected from the jet ski at a high rate of speed, striking the other jet ski.
Members of the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department commandeered a private boat to rescue the teen from the water. They brought her back to the 3rd Street boat launch where she was taken to Kootenai Medical Center with serious, life threatening injuries.
The girl was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center on Saturday where she later died from complications of internal and head injuries sustained during the crash.
Deputies are still investigating the crash, they say alcohol was not a factor.
